Japanese food

I was in Hong Kong couple days after the Japan earthquake on 11 March. I went to posh Japanese super market and realized so much less customer than normal and most of Japanese product is on sale. Even if the product produced before the earthquake and no damage from radiation. I bought as much as I could brought back to London. I think Japanese government really need to make a clear guidance for not to make people worry about safety about Japanese product, otherwise it's very natural that they avoid it. I hope our government became honest and supportive for people's safety.

100 years

I wanted to have a soup, then I got this ultra classic Heinz tomato soup. Actually, it was my first time to try this famous soup. It wasn't one for me. It's too plain and nothing special but I realized the important point to keep same taste for 100 years. That is so plain, very standard and not special, so people keep having it without any doubt. Sometime we like adventure but at same time we also feel comfortable to same thing; basic. We all have some balance of those two different side for a lot of subjects but also in food. That's my thought of today.

Today 56 major newspapers in 45 countries speak with one voice on climate change

Historical summit had just began in Copenhagen. Maybe my knowledge is too limited to talk about this but if the fact I bring up this subject today could be a chance to make even one more person to aware this subject, especially to friends in Japan then this would worth it. This common editorial in 56 newspaper in 45 country doesn't include any of Japanese newspaper. Even our most mighty newspaper in Japan; Asahi shinbun didn't signing up to this common editorial. They only did supportive coverage even this is very important topic that affect to all of us. Media nowadays are under strict control but they done it. It was nearly magical but happen. 'If we, with such different national and political perspectives, can agree on what must be done then surely our leader can too' in this editorial says. Very meaningful for us still to believe world could change by people.

In my late teens and early twenty's in Japan, I always had question if I really have opportunity to know right information what going on in this world. A lot of Japanese politician was using a word 'Globalization' that time but I always had question. There was big gap between their word and reality. I knew there is limit if I only understand in Japanese. There were a lot of things I could never knew. This was one of a reason I came to London, to know what going on in the world with my eyes and brain. Globalization in little me. Here I am. It also remains me time and feeling when soldiers went to Iraq in 2003, Hope this time, we could make a change.

Back to main subject; Climate, we are facing the point we really need to change our lifestyle. Specially in big city like London, Tokyo, NY or even country side nowadays, our life became too complex and busy. We always feel too many things to do but hold on, it's not just busy but also became too much consuming. Our over consume world made deflation now. Does it means we have too many things more than what we need? I think "quantity more than quality" made this problem and confusion in our modern society. Now it's a time, we stop and think what we really need. My generation grow up with almost everything in term of goods. That could not say 'we are wealthy'. Too many goods but we lost soul in that at same time. We no longer put feeling to our surroundings because it's fast consuming items, information or even relationship. We over consuming, making unbalance of nature. To re-form system and our definition of wealthy and happiness could be more difficult than simply produce goods more but time to start taking a step now.

I really hope this summit in Copenhagen will be opportunity to us all, start walking toward solution. Not like the G8 failure. Economic failure was based on money that still just system we created but climate is nature we can't never replace it. Meanwhile, I'm also one of them really need to change my lifestyle. Even little step, there are so many things I could do without hustle. How we eat, how we shop or even how we cook also could contribute to reduce energy. I'm trying to learn from different aspect about it. Well that's will talk other time but to aware this, it's a start.

I would like to Thank you to my very special friend who brought my awareness to this subject and the fact I could be here to know what going on.

You could check what's going on from here http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment

(http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/dec/06/copenhagen-editorial)

Can we feed 9 billion?

By end of this century, our population predicted to grow to nine to ten billion from 6.5 billion now. In this way, it will be essential to find solution that how we grow food, how we have better fertilizer, how protect food on it's way to consumer etc...

Basically, I try to eat organically but my organic is not so strict. There are couple of reasons. First of all, organic and non-organic doesn't have any special nutritious benefit. Secondly, to grow vegetable need to protect from all pests. In this sense, organic vegetable need fur more pesticide than non organic one. When I was kids, my family use to order vegetable to one farmer who deliver to our home once a week depend on what he have in the field at that moment. We needed to go to help him at least once a month to the field. I remember this man also told me, even organic need to have pesticide to protect veg. We shouldn't be hysteric about too much, just need to know how to use it fairly. Finally, organic certificate is helpful if we don't know where a product come from but there are so many local producer who make their product organically but doesn't have certificate.

The reason why I pick up this topic today is that I went to lecture 'Can we feed 9 billion' in RSC. The lecture was specialized in relationship between food and chemical. However, a lecturer also said that to find the way we have enough food for every person on this planet is related to politics. There was one interesting article in Observer one month ago which made me to go this lecture. 'So much food. So much hunger'. Question was how can so many people be hungry when farmers produce enough food at least in theory? The answers are complex and involve everything from American farm politics and African corruption to war, poverty, climate change and drought. Activist say that some of tools for success are within reach provided the financing and political will persist; those tools include seeds fine-turned to local conditions, fertilizer and better road and other infrastructure improvement.

In same article, they referred a word from Dr, Borlaug, plant scientist who created high-yielding wheat varieties to stave of famine, who was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1970. 'World peace will not be build on empty stomachs or human misery. I truly agree and wish we will find a way to solve this problem. So much food but so much hunger is not what we wish for.

Flower back

I left some flower in my kitchen for my dear guest to enjoy their afternoon tea. When I back home late, I realized i received beautiful flower back. My dear guest also left blanch of flower in my room! I love flower, their beauty and brightness. They have much shorter life time than us but they don't afraid to be scattered and bloom beautifully. In our much long lifetime, we sometime easily forget every single moment is precious and never gonna be same. Flower always reminds me that beauty of time concept and I get the power from them.

What coffee mean to you?

Coffee is essential to me in order to start my day. I need to have a good coffee. Monmouth coffee is my favorite coffee place in the world. Every time I went to this coffee shop, they make me very happy.

Evening, I went to dinner with V to Local Turkish place. After meal, we had Turkish coffee and V start saying let's do reading. It's a way to enjoy Turkish coffee! Put your cup up side down and wait till it's get cooler. Then you open your cup and read what it's says. You could read so many things from picture that coffee made inside of cup. We try to imagine what does it mean. The manager of the restaurant asked us how's our reading going? He told us there is a girl she do good for this and he send her over to us.

This was my cup. She told me, Difficult thing is finally getting over and Something new come to me. There is a house where I could be happy and so on.

After you read inside of cup, time to read on the dish. There is big ear in my plate means big news specially from international distance. Also she said I will travel in short distance and long distance soon which is true! Then she find beautiful peacock, that means i will have good period of my life! Also Horse coming to me! How exciting!!

Tonight was nearly full moon. Beautiful evening* Good night X

Day off

Finally my day off come. Today I wanted to do so many things I couldn't do it whole week. laundry, cleaning flat, go to bank, food shopping, jogging, extra sleep etc... All I did was extra sleep and had a coffee with friend.
On the way back from coffee, we found one rope is pitched between two big tree. We asked a girl if we could try it too. All you need is concentration and balance to walk rope. It is much difficult than you see someone doing it but it is really fun. After we tried, it was turn for two little girls. Always kids could learn quicker than adult or maybe they just have more inspiration that they can believe they can do it. Sometimes we just need a little of believe that you can bring yourself forward?

Another sweet?

This looks very much a biscuit but actually this is a birthday card from K.
I wonder how people think I'm crazy about food. I know once I start talking about food, I got so excited easily...

Well, I'm loving it still I sometime could skip a meal, when I'm lazy and if it's just for myself. Reason why I think food is so important is I could share it with people, this is more important than actual meal. While I was staying in Tokyo this time, I could able to meet so many of good friends and spend great time. You made me really happy and I want to thank you, even to some couldn't make it this time. Hope I could share nice meal with you very very soon. You are my sweet*
